Dumb question - How do I turn off an Envy 6555e printer? If I press the power button in back the display screen shows "Shutting down...", it waits for pretty close to forever, then restarts. Do I literally have to pull the plug?
thanks

Thank you @Raj2111 for the reply.
There is no power button on the front. Maybe I missed it but I don't see anything in the user guide about pressing the power button (the one in the back) for 5sec to shut the printer down. I also don't see a reference in the user guide to power management settings. Again, maybe I missed it. The unit is already at the latest firmware revision. I've tried pulling the power cord, that's the only thing that powers it off. Behavior after plugging back in does not change. That would be a crazy way to turn it off, but unless I come across a better way, I guess that's my only solution.

Hi @zeke56
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
- Try holding the front power button for 5 seconds to shut down the printer.
- Ensure any auto power management settings are configured correctly.
- If necessary, do a hard reset by unplugging the printer for a minute and then plugging it back in.
- Consider checking for a firmware update to fix any software bugs that might be causing the restart issue. click here
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

- Press and hold the power button on the back for 5 seconds to turn it off.
- If no response, powering off by unplugging is a fallback.

Hi @zeke56
Good question! I totally get why you’d want to avoid pressing the power button for too long—it can sometimes trigger a reset or other unintended actions. Luckily, turning off the HP Envy 6555e is pretty straightforward. Here’s how you can safely power it down:
To Turn Off Your HP Envy 6555e Printer:
- Press the Power Button (gently):
- Simply press the power button on the front of the printer (it’s usually a solid circle icon, often near the display).
- Press it briefly (don’t hold it down for too long). The printer should power off in a few seconds.
- Wait for the Printer to Fully Shut Down:
- The display screen should turn off, and the printer will make a few soft noises as it powers down.
- Unplug (Optional): If you want to completely power off the printer and avoid any standby power usage, you can unplug the printer from the wall socket. But just turning it off via the power button should suffice for most users.
No need to worry about resetting the printer unless you hold the power button for an extended period (usually 10-15 seconds), which will initiate a reset. If you’re just doing a normal shutoff, you’re good to go!
If you have any other concerns or need to troubleshoot, I’m happy to help!
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks again @Raj2111 for the advice. However, it simply doesn't work. I pushed the power button (which as I said before is in back of the unit not the front) for approximately 7 seconds, as well as shorter times. The device restarts, it doesn't power down. Unless I'm doing something totally stupid, this device has among the strangest bugs I've ever seen.
