How do I turn off printer color management?

I am trying to print a B&W calibration chart made up of a black checkerboard.  The black squares ca 0.14",  have small white pixels on a grid within the squares.

Adobe suggests that I turn off the colour management, but the options are Automatic, Manual, Grayscale. (No Off to be seen)  ICM Disabled / ICM intent gives  a yellow shadow on the black areas.

Alternatively, does the grayscale option switch off any use of a coloured toner?

What is the recommended way to switch off colour management and ensure that the black squares are a solid black?

This document describes the grayscale (black and white) and color options for your HP product and how to change those options.

Print in grayscale for a single print job:

Follow these steps to print in grayscale for a single print job.

1. Open the document you want to print in grayscale.

2. Click File, and then click Print.

3. Click your HP product in the Name drop-down list, and then click Properties.

4. Click the Color tab, select the Print in Grayscale checkbox, and then click OK.

5. Click OK again to start the print job.

Use Manual color options to adjust the Neutral Grays, Halftones, and Edge Control for text, graphics, and photographs.

1. Open the document in which you want to change the color options.

2. Click File, and then click Print.

3. Click your HP product in the Name drop-down list, and then click Properties.

4. Click the Color tab, click Manual, and then click Settings. The Color Settings dialog box opens.

5. Make the desired color changes, and then click OK.

6. Click OK again to start the print job.
