Hello! Could anyone help me update the default settings for the  HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e  to black ink only when printing. I was not able to find it in the manual and the results I found online did not lead me to the correct area. The color mode option was not available when I went to printer properties.

There are a few places that impact when / how color or black / White printing is selected.

EWS - Tray and Paper

 

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next (as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray

Printing Preferences

 

Installing the full driver printer software gives you access to the printer's features.

 

Printing Preferences can (then) be used to set / adjust settings for the current job and to create Custom Shortcuts for different tasks.

 

Printer Properties can (then) be used to select a Default Shortcut for all jobs.

NOTE

When called from within printing programs / software / applications, Printing Preferences might be called "Printer Properties" / "Shortcuts" / “More Settings” / “Properties” / "Printer Setup" / "Presets" or similar.

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Select Printer > Printing Preferences

 

Windows 10

Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners

Select Printer > Manage > Printing Preferences

 

Next

Tab Printing Shortcuts

Select / Highlight your preferred Shortcut

Click Apply > Click OK to exit

Make changes to a Shortcut (Model Dependent)

Select starting Shortcut (locked / template or custom)

Adjust the settings for paper, source (tray), other settings

Check all sub-menus in all Tabs

Click OK to save / leave sub menu

Custom Shortcut

 

On the main Preferences menu,

Save the edited shortcut or use “Save As” or “Create Custom Shortcut” to save as a new / different file name

Click OK to save the setup

HP Smart - Shortcuts

 

HP Smart Shortcuts can be created to print content  with respect to a few of the available settings.

 

Caveat:

Settings are always Printer Model Dependent

 

For example, an HP Smart Shortcut created for "Print" can select

  • Number of Copies
  • Color or Grayscale
  • Two Sided - Off, Short Edge, Long Edge
