@Lib12, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're looking to update your HP ENVY 6458 printer and also ensure it's working properly with your MacBook. I’ll guide you through both steps:

How to Update Your HP ENVY 6458 Printer

Using HP Smart App (Recommended)

  • Download or open the HP Smart app on your Mac: HP Smart for macOS – App Store
  • Add your printer if it’s not already added.
  • Click on your printer > Advanced Settings > this opens the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Go to Tools > Printer Updates > click Check Now.

Via Printer’s Control Panel

  • On the printer screen, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
  • Select Check for Updates and follow the prompts.

Using HP Website

  • Visit the HP Support page.
  • Enter HP ENVY 6458 and select your operating system (macOS).
  • Download and install any available firmware or software updates.

How to Update HP Printer Software on Your MacBook

Update macOS

  • Go to System Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Install any available updates to ensure compatibility with HP software.

Install HP Smart App

  • As mentioned above, install the HP Smart app to manage your printer, scan, print, and update firmware.

Reset Printing System (if needed)

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and choose Reset printing system.
  • Re-add your HP ENVY 6458 using the + button.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
