HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My husband and I just purchased a new HP laptop.  The HP Smart Print App worked perfectly fine on our Dell laptop but now the Private Pickup feature is on in the program and we did NOT select this option.  I can't turn it off.  We sit right next to the printer and find it unnecessary to have to go to the app on our phones in order to print.

How do I turn this off?  It claims that the printer admin enabled this feature but we did not.

How can I remove the printer and reinstall?  Will this solve our issue?

Hi @kc62mac

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You're absolutely right to expect a seamless experience—especially when you're sitting right next to the printer. The Private Pickup feature is part of HP’s secure printing system, but it can feel intrusive when it’s enabled unintentionally.

Here's how you can disable it and restore direct printing:

How to Turn Off Private Pickup (HP ENVY Inspire 7955e)

Option 1: Disable via HP Smart App

  1. Open HP Smart on your Windows 11 laptop.
  2. Select your printer from the home screen.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings or Printer Settings.
  4. Look for Private Pickup, Secure Printing, or Job Release.
  5. If available, toggle it off or set it to Disabled.

If the app says “Admin enabled this feature,” it may require admin access or resetting the printer’s configuration.

Option 2: Reset Printer Settings

If you can't disable it from the app, try restoring the printer’s network and admin settings:

  1. On the printer’s touchscreen, go to:
    • Setup > Settings > Network Settings
  2. Select Restore Network Defaults.
  3. Then go to:
    • Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults

This will reset any admin-enabled features, including Private Pickup.

Reinstalling the Printer (Optional)

If the above doesn’t work, reinstalling might help:

Remove the printer:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
  • Select your printer and click Remove device

Reinstall:

  • Open HP Smart, click Add Printer, and follow the prompts.
  • Avoid enabling HP+ or Private Pickup during setup.

You're clearly tech-savvy and proactive, so this shouldn't slow you down for long.
