Microsoft Windows 11

I keep getting the pop-up in the HP Smart app about installing the Smart Printing Driver, but it will not download. I want to start HP Smart in administrator mode so it can do this properly, but I have no idea how to find the location of its startup file.

Hi @William289 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to install the Smart Print Drivers or start HP Smart in administrator mode on Windows 11 for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-In-One Printer, you can try the following steps:

  • Ensure Administrative Privileges: First, ensure that you have administrative privileges on your Windows 11 computer. Without administrative privileges, you won't be able to install drivers or start applications in administrator mode.
  • Download HP Smart App from Microsoft Store: If you haven't already, download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store. This is where you can manage your printer and install drivers.
  • Check Compatibility: Ensure that the HP Smart app is compatible with Windows 11. It should be, but it's always good to double-check.
  • Run HP Smart as Administrator: To start HP Smart in administrator mode, you can right-click on the HP Smart shortcut icon on your desktop or in the Start menu. Then, select "Run as administrator" from the context menu.
  • Install Smart Print Drivers: Once HP Smart is running with administrator privileges, navigate to the settings or preferences within the app. Look for an option related to printer settings or drivers. There should be an option to install or update drivers. Follow the prompts to install the Smart Print Drivers.
  • Troubleshoot Download Issues: If you encounter issues downloading the Smart Print Drivers, ensure that your internet connection is stable and that there are no firewall or antivirus settings blocking the download. You can also try restarting your computer and trying again.
  • Check for Updates: Sometimes, updates to the HP Smart app itself can resolve compatibility or download issues. Check for updates within the Microsoft Store to ensure you have the latest version of the app.
