LaserJet MFP M577
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I bought a used Laserjet MFP M577. I figured out that there is no HDD and no DIMM installed. I will buy a HDD and DIMM and install them. But also there is a password which I don't have. The only thing I can see currently is a small menu and the few function available do need a password.

How I can reset the device?
In which format should I preformat the HDD (NTFS, exFAT) ?

Which DIMM do I need (DDR3) ?

The hard drive must be an Self encrypting spinning disk (SSD not supported) drive. Format is not required as printer will format the drive when installed. You may not need an additional dimm for the machine to work, there should be memory on board the formatter.  Unless the orignal owner changed or added an admin password to startup, unit should boot to a blue does like screen, possibly with an error. You need to go to the administration menu and clear disk password, then format drive and then download the firmware. Once that is done, restart device and it should startup, install the firmware and come to ready after about 10 minutes.

If you cannot get into any of the blue menus because it asks for a password you have a bigger issue in that the formatter is locked and cannot be unlocked and would need to be replaced.

Can you post the screen you are looking at?

Thanks for your very helpful informations.

Yes, unfortunately it has a password and therefore I can not open the administration menu. I will try to organize the password from the previous owner.
