Just bought a new Chromebook laptop and connected it to my HP OfficeJet 5255 with no issues. Printing works fine. Scanning is unfortunately a different story. The printer reads, "To scan to computer, visit 123.hp.com/setup to download HP software (full software and drivers)." and doesn't allow me to proceed with a scan. On that website, I don't find any software or drivers for ChromeOS. When I try to get support from the HP Virtual Assistant, and I get to the point where they ask what operating system I'm using, ChromeOS isn't even on the menu. When I try to write in my response instead, the Virtual Assistant just gets completely confused and thinks I've started a new inquiry... What can I do? How can I scan to my computer? How can I get help from HP when they don't even seem to acknowledge the existence of ChromeOS? Are Chromebooks that bad that manufacturers just refuse to work with them? Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
Scanning from the printer front panel is not a supported feature for a Chromebook, a such is supported on Widnows and Mac computers only.
Scanning from a Chromebook can be done from Chrome OS or be using Webscan for a network connection, please follow below steps to scan from a Chromebook device with your printer:

Chromebooks use a different system, and not all printer features may be supported. Here’s what you can do:
- Use the HP Smart app for ChromeOS, available on the Google Play Store, to manage your printer and scan documents.
- Alternatively, you can scan using the printer's built-in features and save scans to a USB drive.
- For more help, contact HP support directly by phone or social media, mentioning your Chromebook issue.
Chromebooks aren't bad; they just have different software requirements. Good luck!
