Is it possible to use the Scan to Computer option on my HP Officejet Pro 8610 and Windows 10 laptop?

Going into the GUI of the printer via its IP Address and going to Settings | Security | Admin settings brings me to a screen that blocks me from accessing the ability to enable Webscan.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi @happydog89,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to enable and use the Scan to Computer feature on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 with Windows 10, follow these steps:

Step 1: Ensure HP Software is Installed

Download the Full Feature Software:
Visit the HP Support website and download the full-feature software and driver for the HP Officejet Pro 8610. This software includes the HP Scan tool.

Install the Software:
Run the downloaded installer, follow the on-screen instructions, and ensure you select the option to enable Scan to Computer during the installation.

Step 2: Enable Webscan (if needed)

If you cannot use the regular scanning process or want to use Webscan, follow these steps to enable it:

Access the Printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to find its IP address.
On the printer's control panel, go to: Home > Settings > Reports > Network Configuration Page.
  • Enter the printer’s IP address in a web browser on your computer.

Log In as Administrator:

  • In the EWS, go to Settings > Security > Administrator Settings.
  • Log in with the Administrator password (default is often blank or "admin" unless it was set manually).

Enable Webscan:

  • In the Admin Settings, ensure Webscan is enabled.
  • If blocked, check for additional security settings in the EWS or ensure no firewall or network policy is restricting access.

Step 3: Use the HP Scan Software

Open HP Scan:

  • Press the Windows key and search for HP Scan. Launch the program.

Select the Scan Option:

  • In HP Scan, select Document to File or Photo to File depending on your needs. Adjust scan settings like resolution, file type, and destination folder.

Start the Scan:

  • Place the document on the scanner glass or in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
  • Click Scan in the HP Scan application.

Step 4: Enable Scan to Computer (Optional)

From the HP Printer Assistant:

  • Open the HP Printer Assistant installed with the driver.
  • Go to Scan > Manage Scan to Computer and ensure it’s enabled.

Set to Start with Windows:

  • In the Manage Scan to Computer window, check Automatically Start Scan to Computer When I Log on to Windows for convenience.

  • Cannot Enable Webscan: If security policies prevent enabling Webscan, you may need to reset the printer's network or security settings.
  • Firewall Issues: Temporarily disable the Windows Firewall or any third-party antivirus software to test if they are blocking access.
  • HP Smart App: Alternatively, you can use the HP Smart app to scan documents directly to your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
