My HP OfficeJet 6970 used to append a sequential number to the base name for scanned socuments

(eg: scan.pdf, scan_0001.pdf, scan_0002.pdf, etc).

Today, I had to re-install drivers to get the scanner to work again, and it no longer appends the numbered suffix.     I know there is a code to put on the base filename in the settings, but can't remember what it is?

Hi @Thisux,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To automatically append a sequential number to scanned documents using your HP OfficeJet 6970, you typically need to set up a specific naming convention in the scanner settings. Here’s how you can do it.

Access the HP Scan Software: Open the HP Scan software on your computer. If you don't have it installed, you might need to download and install it from the HP support website.

Configure Naming Convention:

  • Look for an option related to naming conventions or file naming settings within the HP Scan software.
  • You should find a field where you can enter a base filename and append a sequential number to it.

Use Placeholder Codes: HP scanners often use placeholder codes to automatically generate sequential numbers. Common placeholders include:

  • %N: This typically represents a sequential number.
  • %D: This represents the date.
  • %T: This represents the time.

Enter the Code: In the naming convention settings, enter a base filename followed by the sequential number placeholder. For example, if you want your files to start with "scan" followed by a sequential number, you might enter something like scan_%N.

Save Settings: After entering the naming convention, save or apply the settings.

Test Scanning: Perform a test scan to see if the scanned document now includes the sequential number in the filename.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
