How do I change the DEFAULT to only print in BLACK INK on the HP OFFICEJET PRO 8740?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

First, ensure that the FULL feature software is installed.

Connect printer to wireless network:

HP Officejet Pro 8700, 6900 series Setup Wizard

Installing the Software for HP Officejet Pro 8730

(note: the 8730 and 8740 are same printers except one comes with an additioanl 2nd paper tray)

* After successfully installing the FULL feature software, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Right click on the printer (OfficeJet Pro 8740) and select "Printing Preferences"

* Under "Printing Preferences", go to "Color" and tick on the checkbox for "Print in Grayscale" > Apply then OK and it should be default to printing in Grayscale only.

Note there is not "Black Ink only" for this model, only Grayscale as shown.
