I had the scan to network folder setup once before for my previous Mac computer. Now I have a new Mac with Big Sur. I'm trying to get the configuration setup for a network folder on my Mac and on my wife's Mac. So far I can't get my MacBook Pro with the HP Smart app freshly downloaded to recognize any folder I try.
First off, why can't HP provide some valid path examples for the Path to Network Folder?
1. Does it expect an IP address or something else? I used IP address before but this time it doesn't work.
2. Does the path want forward slashes or backslashes?
3. Once I specify the IP address of my Mac, where does that take me relative to my /Users/(username) folder?
4. Given the tight security Mac OS has, is there some permissions hurdle that is blocking me?
A few varied examples would really be helpful!
I fill in all the fields in the setup steps but I keep getting this error:
"Unable to connect to the printer. Check your configurations and try again."
SO it becomes a guessing game instead of a definitive correction so I can get it working and be on my way.

Have you properly shared out the path on your MAC and have you put the correct credentials into the scan to folder setup to ensure that the printer has rights too create files on your MAC.
Here is a couple of videos that might help. The second video is for scanning through HP Easy Scan

Thanks for your suggestions. While the Easy Scan app is old, it still seems to work and does deliver the scan to any folder on my MacBook Pro. The 2nd video for setup of a shared folder is not what I am after in my question. I'm still looking for help on setup in the HP Smart app. The most intuitive operation for a wifi printer is to go to the printer, place the document page(s) into the hopper and select Scan option. Having predefined folders setup on my laptop and another on my wife's laptop is what I need. So I'm still looking for what the path to the network folder should be to get this option to work. I do like having the Easy Scan app as a backup, but HP should improve their Smart app to actually be smart! It is clueless on helping me find the folder path to link to.
