Microsoft Windows 11

A while ago I talked with customer support and asked them how to delete an old discarded printer from everywhere.  They walked me through a few steps, and I thought they had gotten rid of it, but lately, this printer is showing up in random places.  For example, HP Smart/My Account.  The printer in question is a 5740.  There are buttons to set it up, buttons to sign it up for Instant Ink, but no button to simply delete it.  How can I accomplish this?

Hi @jimspy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

To delete a printer from your HP account, follow these steps to ensure it is removed from your HP Smart account and My Account page:

Removing the Printer from HP Smart

Open HP Smart:

  • Launch the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.

Sign in to Your HP Account:

  • Make sure you are signed in to your HP account in the HP Smart app.

Select the Printer:

  • From the main screen, click on the printer you want to remove (HP Envy 5740).

Remove the Printer:

  • Click on the printer settings or preferences (usually represented by a gear icon or three dots).
  • Look for an option to "Remove Printer" or "Forget this Printer" and click on it.
  • Confirm the removal when prompted.

Removing the Printer from HP Connected/My Account

Go to HP Connected:

  • Open a web browser and go to the HP Connected website.
  • Sign in with your HP account credentials.

Manage Your Printers:

  • After signing in, navigate to the "My Printers" section. This section lists all printers associated with your HP account.

Remove the Printer:

  • Find the HP Envy 5740 printer in the list.
  • Click on the printer to open its details.
  • Look for an option to remove or delete the printer from your account.
  • Confirm the removal when prompted.

Additional Steps if the Printer Still Shows Up

If the printer still appears in random places or seems to be linked to your account, try the following:

Clear Cache and Re-sign In:

  • Clear the cache of the HP Smart app or the web browser you are using to access HP Connected.
  • Sign out of your HP account and then sign back in.

Remove the Printer from Other Devices:

  • Ensure that the printer is removed from all devices that may have been associated with your HP account, such as other computers, tablets, or smartphones.

If the printer still appears after following the above steps, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance. They can help ensure that the printer is completely removed from your account and any associated services via remote assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

The printer does not show up in HP Smart (I guess cuz it's smart?) It only shows up in my online account.

When I got into HP Connected, it told me "Looks like we don't have any support content for you here."  None of my printers showed up at all.
