Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all,

My older printer cartridges no longer work. I learned that this was due to the newest firmware upgrade. It disables any pre-2017 cartridges.

Does anyone know how to downgrade the firmware for Officejet 8630?

I researched around but can't find an answer.

Thank you.

@rohanjcp, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

The printer firmware cannot be downgraded. For more info on this issue, refer to - z10, z20, z30, z40 on HP 950 and 951 Ink Cartridges

We need to perform a regional reset on the printer to resolve this issue.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Thank you for replying back to me. You mentioned that I need to do a regional reset. But is it possible that is not the solution? I wanted to ask you this because of 2 things:

1) My ink seller thinks that the latest firmware disables the use of inks that are made prior to 2017. That may be the case.

2) I have 2 new cartridges in my hand right now: an older model one (2013 from asia) that I normally use and a newer model one that is Z10 (2023 from usa). Recently, when I installed the older model one, I got the message below, rejecting it as an older model cartridge. It's never happened before.IMG_20210826_132138.jpg

Then when I used ink from another region, the Z10 (which is not compatible with my printer, but I accidentally bought it) , the screen says this cartridge is not intended for this printer.

If you still think that I need to do a regional reset I will proceed with your instructions. I think if there is no way to downgrade my printer's firmware so that I can use older cartridges, then I would need your help to reset the region so that I can use Z10 and perhaps buy the ones that are made after 2017. Is that the idea?
