HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I removed the printer pursuant to troubleshooting a printing issue. I didn't suspect a problem with the printer itself, but I want to rule that out. I've now resolved the printing problem, but when I try to add the printer to Windows Devices and Printers, it ask for the PIN. I have a file containing the serial number but not the PIN. Where can I find the PIN? Here's the back of the printer showing the serial number. Are the other number shown the PIN?

HP 6970 tag on back of printer maybe pin snagit.jpg

Seems like during initial setup I need the PIN and the remote technician was able to get the pin by executing a program on the computer. Maybe there's a function in HP Smart for that?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

If you open the front cover of the printer - as if to remove the print cartridges - you will find the default EWS password (it's actually a PIN number) printed on the right, along with your printer's serial number.

Let me know if this helps.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thanks!

Have a great day!
