So I am able to connect the printer and the system finds it. When I then print it just sort of finish the printing without printing? I read an other thread with the same issue (usb 2 vs usb3) But it seems my mac only has usb 3, so how do I make the printer work?

@Andreas2311, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

The USB 3.0 port on your MAC is backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices such as the printer.

  • Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the MAC?
  • You may check this in System Information > Applications.
  • If yes, disable the same and check if that helps.

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the MAC and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your MAC.

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your MAC:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Click here to download the printer software and install the same on the MAC

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Kumaro,

Thanks for your input however no luck. All you said checks out but the printer still does not print.

So her are some more desription:

1. The printer is recognised

2. HP Smart finds the printer as well and detects no issue

3. When printing any doc (word, google doc, pdf) the printer is shown and can be selected. The system says it is printing and finish the print as if it was printed however nothing comes out of the printer.

4. Is it the physical printer that is broken?

Best,

Andreas

Let us try to print a printer test page to check the hardware functionality:

Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button  on the printer control panel, and then release it when the Ready light  blinks.

The Configuration Report prints.

HP Smart app does not support a USB connection. It should be wireless.

Have you tried connecting the printer wirelessly to check if that helps?

To know how to connect the printer to a wireless network, refer to this document. Use the WPS method.

Keep me posted.

1. The print test page worked - so it can print 😉

2. unfortunately the printer model is not with wifi. It is the "HP LaserJet Pro M15a" - or at least I can not see the wifi symbol anywhere.

3. Firewall is off (never been on)

4. No anti-virus installed

Still the printer shows in the list of printers. When selected it sents print to the printer and the system says it is printed but nothing comes out of the printer.

HP LaserJet Pro M15a does not have wireless radio. I think this issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
