HP LaserJet 1022n Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Windows 11 recognises my HP1022 printer which is attached via a USB port. It is shown as status Idle

In Device Manager it shows up under USB Controllers, and under Printers there is an entry for the specific printer class driver HP Laserjet 1022n Class Driver.

The Windows 11  troubleshooter finds nothing apart from identifying that it is not the default printer.   Making it the default does not help

A test page printed on my older computer references the print processor HP1020PrintProc.  I cannot find this as file name.  Is  this firmware?  The test page also references additional print files:

  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\GChp1020.dll
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\SUhp1020.ENT
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\SUhp1020.VER

I copied these 3 files to correct locations on the new computer.

In printer properties I can choose to print a test page and the page briefly appears in the print queue before disappearing from it.   However, nothing has physically printed.

I seem to be so close to getting this printer working, so some additional help to get over the final hurdle would really, really appreciated.

Hello @Gaya1239

Thank you for your detailed reply, which appears to be the standard approach to driver problems.

Since posting my query, I have discovered that the HP1022n will print documents but the option within the driver to print a test page does not result in anything being printed.  Given that I can print documents, I am not inclined to go through the uninstall-reinstall routine just now.  The printer is working for all practical purposes.

However, I shall soon be conducting a clean install of Windows 11 and at that time I shall certainly bear in mind your detailed process.

The link you provided has enabled me to find the user manual which I shall retain for future reference.

Many thanks for your help.

Regards

David

The 1022 uses GDI (host based) printing, which means it does not contain a PCL5 or 6 convertor and relies on the computer and driver to send a properly formatted job to it. When you perform your clean install I suggest that you try the HP Smart Universal Printer driver as I have had success with older GDI based printers on Windows 11 using that driver. No guarantee here, but an option to try.
