How to prevent "waiting for printer connection" popup when printer is OFF.

The dialog box requires me to click "Cancel" each time the popup reappears.

I already unchecked the notification boxes that I could find, and disabled HP utilities in Startup.

Also, what is the strip of green light inside the HP printer 8125e to the left of the scanning glass?

That didn't appear in my previous printer, HP 9010 series.

Hi @HenrySmith4444,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

You can stop the “waiting for printer connection” pop‑up by disabling HP Smart notifications, removing HP utilities from startup, and turning off printer alerts in the Embedded Web Server (EWS). The green strip of light inside your HP OfficeJet Pro 8125e is the scanner lamp — it illuminates the glass during scanning and is normal.

Disable notifications in HP Smart

Open HP Smart > Settings > Notifications.

Turn off printer alerts, offers, and connection notices.

Remove HP utilities from startup

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc > Task Manager > Startup tab.

Disable HP Smart, HP Messenger, or HP Support Solutions Framework.

Turn off alerts in the embedded web server.

Find your printer’s IP address on the control panel.

Enter it in a browser to open the EWS.

Go to Settings/Advanced > disable Web Services, Product Updates, and Status Notifications.

Uninstall extra HP components

In Windows Settings > Apps, remove HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant if you don’t use them.

Keep only the basic driver package.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
