I have an HP 5100 series printer. I am trying to print out an image to be 2 1/2 x 3 1/2“ I’m told I need to print it at actual size in order for this to happen, however, printing an item and actual size doesn’t seem to be an option. Does anyone know how to do this

Hi @Vn2025,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out. We’d be happy to help you print your image at the correct size.

First, could you please confirm which HP 5100 model you’re using? HP has several product lines under the 5100 series name, such as LaserJet, DeskJet, Smart Tank, PageWide, and ScanJet, and the steps vary slightly depending on the printer type.

In the meantime, here are some general steps that usually work for most HP printers:

  1. Open the image file on your computer (for example, in Photos, Paint, or Adobe Acrobat if it’s a PDF).
  2. Select Print (Ctrl + P or File → Print).
  3. In the Print dialog box, look for a setting such as “Actual Size,” “100% scale,” or “Custom Scale” and select it.
  4. If you don’t see that option, click on More Settings, Properties, or Advanced; some applications hide the scaling options there.
  5. Set the paper size and orientation to match your print requirements (e.g., 4x6 inch or A4).
  6. Click Print Preview to ensure the dimensions look correct before printing.

Once you share the exact printer model name (for example, “HP LaserJet 5100,” or “HP Smart Tank 5100”), we can provide detailed step-by-step instructions tailored specifically to your device.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
