Hi

 

I'm in the embarrassing situation of having forgotten my admin logon to my 8710 printer

I'm not in the habit of writing down login credentials but there seems no easy way to recover them

 

Can you help please

Try to restore it to factory settings from the maintenance menu.

SETUP-> Maintenance-> Restore

 

If that isn't helpful google search for 8710 hidden menu

Is it a full or  partial restore.

 

How much will I lose of my printer configuration?

 

I spent a great deal of time trying to make it secure when I set it up originally

I would go for the partial reset first it's softer than a semi-full reset. The semi-full will make your printer like new from the box, you will probably need to set it up from 0.
