I have a HP7858 printer, and I need to scan a 3 page document to a Adobe .pdf file into the DOWNLOADS folder of my NEW Windows 11 HP Pavilion notebook.

The HP printer is attached to the HP notebook by a USB cable, and when I direct the printer to scan the document in the feeder bin (by pushing the touch screen on the printer), the printer touch screen says it is "Preparing to Scan" and displays the revolving "processing activity" indicator.   Then after about 30 seconds the printer screen displays an error message that says:

"- Scan Unsuccessful

One or more of the following problems has prevented the scan from being completed:

   - The connection to the computer has been lost.

   - The scan application on the computer is currently in use.

   - An OCR application is not installed on the computer.

Check the computer for more information."

MY QUESTION IS:  WHAT DO I NEED TO ADD TO MY HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK COMPUTER SO IT CAN RECEIVE A SCAN FROM AN HP7858 MULTI-FUNCTION PRINTER????????

None of the AI generated proposals seem to apply.  Can I get some actual customer service by a knowledgable tech representative?

You have a couple of problems here that I see.

A quick fix is to just run HP Scan or HP Smart on your PC to do the scan.   You can optionally do the OCR and the app will prompt you where to save it.  If you select the document feeder as input you can scan all three pages.

THAT BEING SAID,

it appears you want to initiate the scan on the printer and have it find the PC, find a shared folder, find and run the optical character recognition software, and convert the images into either a DOCX or a PDF document.

I have never bothered to do this and do not have a printer like yours, but I can sketch out how to do it if you want.

All of your software is here

All manuals are here

Scanning to a pc from the control panel of the printer is described on page 45.

If you want to use HP Scan or HP Smart to do the scanning, let me know.
