Hi @jogger72,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer shows “Printer needs user intervention” when printing from a Windows 11 laptop. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the printer status on the control panel
Make sure there are no error messages, blinking lights, or prompts on the printer screen.
Confirm the printer has paper loaded and the ink cartridges are properly installed.

Set the printer as the default printer
Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Select the HP OfficeJet 5740 and click “Set as default.”

Clear the print queue
Open the printer queue from Printers & scanners and cancel any stuck print jobs.
Restart the printer after clearing the queue.

Run the Windows printer troubleshooter
Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Printer → Run.
This checks for spooler issues, offline status, or communication problems.

Restart the print spooler service
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Find “Print Spooler,” right-click it, and select Restart.

Reinstall or update the printer driver
Remove the printer from Printers & scanners and restart the computer.
Add the printer again using the HP Smart app or the Windows “Add device” option to install a fresh driver.

Check the printer connection
If using USB, reconnect the cable to a different port.
If using Wi-Fi, ensure both the printer and laptop are connected to the same network.

I hope this helps.
