I have two HP9025 and are switching their locations in the office. I cannot open the settings to change the tray set up option. It says that the owner (me) has locked this feature.

how can I manually reset the printer?

Hi @PhillipLynchJr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 shows “Owner has locked this feature”, it means the printer is under HP Smart Admin / Embedded Web Server (EWS) access control. This lock prevents tray or setup changes without admin credentials.

Here’s how you can manually reset the printer and regain access:

Option 1: Restore Factory Defaults from Control Panel

  1. On the printer touchscreen:
    • Tap Setup (gear icon).
    • Go to Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset.
  3. The printer will restart and return to out-of-box state, removing all admin locks.

Option 2: Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. Find the printer’s IP address:
    • On the touchscreen: Network Settings > IP Address.
  2. Enter the IP in your browser.
  3. Log in as Administrator (default password may be blank if never set).
  4. Navigate to:
    • Settings > Printer Settings > Restore Defaults.
  5. Apply and restart.

Option 3: Semi-Full Reset (Advanced)

If the touchscreen menu is locked:

  • Power off the printer.
  • Hold # and 3 while powering on → wait for reset screen.
  • Alternatively, #6 for a full factory reset. (This clears all settings, including ownership lock.)

Important Notes

  • After reset, you’ll need to reconfigure Wi-Fi, trays, and HP app setup.
  • If the printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink or HP Smart Admin, you may need to re-sign in after reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
