Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I have a BIG question and maybe a problem too.

White scanner strip constantly blinks white 1-2 times per second even when the printer is on Sleep mode (the power button  and WiFi button still light). It's so strange for me. I'm scared that button's lights burn out and the scanner will damage itself.

According to auto+off feature. If I turn it on, will the Print anywhere work?

Hi @Bartłomiej2001

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand your concern about the white scanner strip blinking continuously while the printer is in Sleep mode, as well as your question about the Auto-Off feature and HP Print Anywhere. I'll be glad to help clarify both.

Regarding the white scanner strip blinking every 1-2 seconds:

The scanner light on the HP Smart Tank 670 series should normally turn off after initialization and remain inactive while the printer is idle or in Sleep mode. If the scanner light continues blinking, it can sometimes indicate that the scanner subsystem has not fully entered its low-power state.

To help the printer refresh its internal functions:

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait about 60 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the printer and turn it on.

Next, check the printer's firmware:

  1. Open the HP app.
  2. Select your HP Smart Tank 670 printer.
  3. Go to Printer Settings or Advanced Settings.
  4. Check for any available firmware updates and install them.
  5. Restart the printer after the update completes.

If the printer functions normally and scanning/copying are working correctly, the blinking light itself is not expected to damage the scanner or wear out the illumination system under normal use.

Regarding Auto-Off and HP Print Anywhere:

If Auto-Off is enabled, the printer can power down completely after a period of inactivity to reduce energy consumption.

For HP Print Anywhere to work:

  • The printer must be powered on.
  • The printer must remain connected to Wi-Fi.
  • The printer must have an active connection to HP cloud services.

If Auto-Off turns the printer completely off, Print Anywhere will not be able to wake the printer remotely, and remote print jobs may not be received until the printer is powered back on.

For users who frequently use HP Print Anywhere, keeping Auto-Off disabled is often the preferred choice so the printer remains available for remote access while still benefiting from Sleep mode when idle.

I would recommend leaving the printer in Sleep mode rather than using Auto-Off if Print Anywhere is an important feature for your daily use. This helps maintain connectivity while keeping power usage low.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello!

Thanks for replying. But unfortunately turning off the printer and unplugging it didn't work unfortunately.

The scaner is still blinking.

Maybe factory reset will help?

What do you think?

Thank you for the update. I understand the scanner light continues to blink even after performing the power reset. I appreciate you testing those steps and sharing the results.

Since the printer is otherwise operating normally and the scanner/copy functions are working, a factory reset may be worth trying as the next troubleshooting step. A reset can restore the printer's internal settings and may help if the scanner subsystem is not entering its normal low-power state.

Before performing a reset, please note that it may remove saved settings such as Wi-Fi configuration and preferences, so you may need to reconnect the printer afterward.

You can perform a factory restore from the printer's control panel:

  1. Open the printer Settings menu.
  2. Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  3. Look for Restore, Restore Factory Defaults, or Reset options.
  4. Confirm the reset and allow the printer to restart.
  5. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network if prompted.

After the reset, let the printer sit idle for a few minutes and then place it into Sleep mode to check whether the scanner light behavior changes.

Regarding Auto-Off, enabling it will power the printer down completely after inactivity. Since HP Print Anywhere requires the printer to remain powered on and connected to the network, keeping Auto-Off disabled remains the better option if you regularly use remote printing.

Please let us know whether the factory reset changes the blinking behavior. Your findings will help us understand if the behavior is related to a setting or the printer's initialization process.
