It is totally unacceptable that a company like HP is unable to solve a probpema like this.
I just bought an - All-in-One HP OfficeJet Pro 8715
- and on my Mac M4 I have Sequoia 15.4 - And I am having the same problem. Hp Easy Scan is not working. It is not possible for me to use the scanner to send documents to my Mac.
It would be a case of getting a move on to solve the problem again.
I have been chatting for three days with the person who answers me from India-I live in Italy-and no one can give me an explanation.
Heck!!!

Hi @lep2000,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check for Updates: Ensure that your HP Easy Scan software is up to date. You can check for updates through the Mac App Store or download the latest version from HP Software and Driver Downloads.
Update macOS: Ensure that your macOS Sequoia 15.4 is up to date. Software updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can resolve compatibility issues.
Reinstall HP Easy Scan
Uninstall HP Easy Scan: Open Finder, go to Applications, find HP Easy Scan, and drag it to the Trash.
Download Latest Version: Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads and download the latest version of HP Easy Scan.
Install HP Easy Scan: Follow the instructions to reinstall the software on your Mac.
Check Scanner Connectivity
Verify Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Mac. Check both wired and wireless connections.
Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for 60 seconds, and then turn it back on.
Reset Network Settings: If you are using a wireless connection, reset the network settings on your printer and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
Use Image Capture
Open Image Capture: As an alternative to HP Easy Scan, you can use the built-in Image Capture application on your Mac.
Select Printer: Open Image Capture, select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 from the Devices list.
Scan Documents: Use Image Capture to scan documents and save them directly to your Mac.
Check Permissions and Settings
Permissions Issues: Ensure that HP Easy Scan has the necessary permissions to access your scanner and save documents. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab and check permissions for HP Easy Scan.
Scanning Settings: Open HP Easy Scan, go to Preferences, and ensure that scanning settings are correctly configured for your needs.
I hope this helps.

I have a Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw and I am having the same issue as everyone else with a HP printer/scanner combo and a Mac running Sequoia. The responses from support are not helping at all. You guys copy and paste the same "solution" every time and it does not work.
I have downloaded the latest HP Easy Scan.
My macOS is up to date.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and drivers as well as HP Easy Scan multiple times.
My connection to the Laserjet is fine as the Printer part of the Printer/Scanner combo is recognized and I can print without a problem.
I have restarted the printer and my computer multiple times as well as reset the network settings.
I cannot use Image Capture since the scanner is not recognized so it does not show up as a device for Image Capture.
I have enabled permissions under system preferences for HP Easy scan as well as every other HP app.
I cannot access Scan Settings as no scanner is recognized.
Anything else I missed? Because none of these "solutions" work.

Hi @lep2000,
Thank you for reaching out, and I understand the frustration.
Here are a few things you can try:
Check If Scanner Works via USB (Try This First)
Temporarily connect your printer to the Mac via USB cable.
Why: HP's older scanner drivers sometimes only work over USB on newer macOS.
Open HP Easy Scan → See if scanner shows up.
If it does show up via USB, that confirms the network scanning functionality is broken on macOS 14.
Install HP Smart App from Mac App Store
I know HP Easy Scan is the go-to, but sometimes HP Smart actually works better with newer macOS.
Download here: HP Smart - Mac App Store
Set up your M175nw again in the app.
Try using the Scan feature inside HP Smart.
Sometimes HP Smart handles communication better for network devices on newer macOS versions.
Use AirScan (Apple’s Built-In Driver Support)
Your model supports AirScan, which is like Apple’s version of scan-over-network.
Do this:
Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
Remove your current printer.
Click the “+” to re-add it, BUT WAIT!
In the printer list, look for “M175nw (Bonjour/AirPrint)” or similar.
Select that and click Add.
Now go to Preview or Image Capture → See if it shows the scanner now.
If you add the printer using HP drivers, AirScan won't work. You have to add it via AirPrint.
Make sure your macOS firewall is not blocking scanner discovery:
System Settings > Network > Firewall > Options > Allow Incoming Connections for HP apps
Keep your printer firmware updated. Even older HP printers sometimes get little scanner fixes via firmware!
I hope this helps.

My laserjet printer/scanner combo is connected via USB. Printer works. Scanner is not recognized.
HP smart app is the app I used first. Printer works, scanner is not recognized, thus HP Easy Scan does not work.
Airprint(bonjour) works. I can print wirelessly, scanner is not recognized.
Firewall is not blocking the laserjet.
I am on the latest drivers for the laserjet downloaded from the HP website. I am up to date on my macOS as well as all software.
Printer is recognized and works fine via USB as well as Airprint(bonjour).
Scanner is not recognized whether using USB or wirelessly(bonjour).
Since the scanner is not recognized, i cannot use HP Easy Scan, or any native apps such as Preview or Image Capture as the scanner will not show under devices.

Hi @Us3r123,
Thank you for the response.
Re-add the Printer Using AirPrint (Bonjour)
Since AirPrint can sometimes enable basic scanning functionality without relying on HP's proprietary drivers:
Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
Remove your existing printer entry
Click + to re-add the printer
Choose “HP LaserJet M175nw (Bonjour/AirPrint)”, not the HP driver version
Click Add
Open Preview or Image Capture → Check if the scanner shows up now
Important: AirPrint scanning only works if the printer was added using the Bonjour/AirPrint protocol.
Try HP Smart and Webscan (Embedded Web Server)
Since HP Easy Scan isn’t detecting the scanner:
Open the HP Smart App
If scanner still doesn’t appear, go to the printer’s IP address in your browser (you can find it on the printer screen or router)
From the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
Go to the Scan tab
Try Webscan feature to check if scanning is possible through browser interface
Note: Webscan must be enabled from the printer’s settings (EWS > Settings > Security > Enable Webscan).
Ensure macOS Permissions
Let’s double-check that macOS isn’t restricting scanner access:
Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders
Make sure HP Smart, HP Easy Scan, Image Capture, etc., have full access
Also check Full Disk Access and Accessibility under the same settings
Restart the Mac after making changes.
Reset the Printing System (Last-Resort macOS Reset)
This will completely clear all printer/scanner settings and drivers:
Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
Right-click in the printer list and choose "Reset printing system…"
Restart the Mac
Re-add the printer using AirPrint (not the HP drivers)
Note: You will have to reconfigure the printer queue and settings.
If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, you can try using a reliable third-party app such as VueScan. Many users have reported successful scanning with HP MFP models using VueScan, especially when native macOS or HP drivers fail to detect the scanner.
VueScan uses its own built-in drivers and can recognize scanners over USB or network even when standard drivers fall short.
I hope this helps.
