I was able to do wireless print via my HP ENVY 5660 printer till yesterday. But today it always show message 'Driver is unavailable' (in Printers list). I tried install/re-install software for this model 7-8 times already but no luck. There is no update on my win 10, not sure what is the issue. Can someone please help?

Hello Nik,
Please do a COMPLETE uninstall of the printer's software first; then click Sabertooth's link for the 5660 Full Feature Software.
Steps 1-3 for a complete uninstall.
1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features. Look in Control Panel.
-Select your HP printer by left clicking once on all 5660 items (2 files with Envy 5660 as part of the name -- Software and Help)
-Select Uninstall.
2) In Windows 10, click on Settings > Devices > Printers/Scanners. Then left click once on the Envy 5540, and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.
3) Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo. (If you have the actual Windows Key on your keyboare. Otherwise, right click on the Windows Key of Win 10 and click on Search.
Then in the Search entry box, type printui.exe /s and click OK. (Note: space between exe /s)
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP 5660 Series Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
I am not an HP employee; just searching for helpful answers for queries on the forum.
A reply is greatly appreciated, if suggestions help or not, as the multitude of volunteers on the forums respond to lots of queries, which requires a great deal of time. Good luck.

hi
Thanks for the reply. Actually since yesterday, i have tried this solution for 6-7 times. But no luck. Also, I was able to print from same laptop for a day before, but now its always saying 'Driver is unavailable'. I am able to Scan from the Printer, but not able to Print any document from laptop. My other laptop with Win 10, it still working, not sure how long will it work. It seems to be problem with Win10 compatibility, but not sure why it worked for 1 day. Is there any other solution possible for this?
Another question: If I buy a printer cable, will it work?
Thanks in advance.

Hello again Nik,
Thank you for replying, it helps with continuing with a possible solution. Glad to hear you are still attempting to work around this frustrating problem. Good work! The other laptop probably will continue to perform with the printer. Something in the problem laptop needs fixing.
I have you jump around in my solutions, in order to isolate or eliminate the problem. It may be the Print Settings. Also, start with the Print/Scan Doctor and resolving Wireless Problems, etc. Note, if any step is a fix, forgo any further steps.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Since you say: "not able to Print any document from laptop," the problem could be in the Print Dialog in program from which you are attempting to print. For example MS Word. Can you print from other programs, say a photo, etc.
Also, since it scans to computer, the Print Dialog settings are suspect.
Look at Solution 4 in the next link. I add also to click on Paper/Quality and make sure the Paper Tray (say Main Tray) matches the Paper Size (say letter) in Advanced. Or photo tray, matches the paper size. Try a test print (with one word to save ink).
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-5660-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6809225/document/c0435... entitled Black Ink Not Printing and other Print Quality Issues
You should perform all the Solutions in the above link.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next, please note the two suggestions below at ** and ##, which you could do now.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
One quick check is to Reboot the Components, to ensure the laptop and printer are wirelessly connected. So, we need to turn off router/modem (unplug if needed), the printer and the computer. Leave the router/modem off 60 seconds. Then turn on each successively in this order: router/modem, printer and computer. Let each completely turn on (no flashing lights or noises as the printer warms up) prior to the next one. Any results? Try a print after each step. Since you can scan, this may not be the issue.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
One easy way to find whether the Windows updated; the last Win 10 update is found if you open System Restore, which lists the last restore point. Mine updated 1/10. Did yours?
Also, it could resolve the issue if you could do the System Restore yourself.
For System Restore, please click Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore > Next. Left click once on the earliest one and follow the instructions. It doesn't affect the files, but close out files and open apps first. Results?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You say "have tried this solution for 6-7 times." However, do you mean you tried the COMPLETE UNINSTALL, prior to installing software. It is needed. Here is a link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02259020 Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
An additional step is a Hard Reset of the printer, which may fix it; but also do prior to a software install. Please follow steps carefully, thus:
-Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
-Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
-With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
-Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. (releases
-Wait at least 60 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet. Turn on if needed. Any results?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I see the Full Feature Software is dated June, 2017, while the drivers, etc. below in the download page are dated later. Are you willing to download the items (Firmware, Software (which is HP Easy Start), e-print software, and Print/Scan Doctor).
** First do the HP Print and Scan Doctor (found in next link) Any results?
Then install the others one at a time, doing Software (Easy Start) last.
Here is the software link again. https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-5660-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6809225/mo... Click Software/Drivers > Go > Download. Look at the lower half of the page.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
## Alternative solutions are in link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-5660-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6809225/document/c0536... entitled Wireless Troubleshooting Click on the link and follow the steps by clicking on: "To resolve the issue, go to HP Printers - Wireless Troubleshooting" (in this link).
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, a printer cable is only about $10. There are $5 ones, but lesser quality. Google Amazon, Walmart for printer cable USB Type a to b. Try is in the printer's current condition. Then, try in conjunction with an install of the full feature software. It may not solve the problem.

Thanks for the reply. As of now my issue is resolved. The issue started when i connected to my office network (didn't think about that earlier). I have contacted HP Support, and the support person installed HP printer drivers on a new Port. This worked for me. Anyway thanks for your suggestions.

Hello again Nik,
That's wonderful, glad you are operational. Thanks again for replying, it's gratifying to know your printer is ok. Yes, sometimes it's a help to think about or to know about any changes, such as connecting to the network. It speaks well of HP support that they worked it out. Good luck. Bye.

I had the same problem where my printers suddenly stopped working from my Windows 10 PC after several months use with no problems. I could still print to it from mobile phone.
I tried several unsuccessful uninstalls/installs with restarts etc, etc ^& nothing changed - i.e. I still have "Driver is not available" showing in Windows Printer settings after installation & the printer did not appear in the list of available printers when trying to print e.g. from Word.
I logged on to my home router & changed the IP address that was allocated to my HP printer by DHCP. I then unistalled & reinstalled & this time it worked fine & I can print again.
So, to repeat, the fix that worked was:
1) Change local IP address that is allocated to printer (in DHCP / Local network settings on home router)
2) Uninistall all HP printer software
3) Remove Printer in Windows settings
4) Reinstall HP software (5660 Envy Full-Feature software in my case)
