Hp Deskjet 2720e
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!

I bought a used HP DeskJet 2720e and want to use the Smart app on my Windows computer. Problem is that the Windows smart app is unable to log into my hp account. It is simply stuck at "Loading Hp account". I cannot finish setting up the printer because it get stuck loading the account nor can I simply log into the app. Seems like the app will not open up the prompt to open the website. I tried EasyStart as well, but that also got stuck when it opened Smart app to log in. I need help!

The printer might be tied to an old Instant Ink subscription account.

Instead of cancelling, the previous owner might have simply dumped the printer (sold, sent to charity).

From what I've observed, "dump and run" is a common practice.

IF the printer is (or was) subscribed to the optional Instant Ink service, that account must be closed / removed from the printer.

You need an agent to help remove Instant Ink account information.

Did printer come with Ink?

If the printer came with Ink cartridges,

If those cartridges are Subscription / Instant Ink,

Then

The cartridges cannot be used with the printer.

At the very least, the printer will need to have all Instant Ink cartridges removed and a new set of HP ink cartridges installed.

True -- Economy printers can easily cost more to use than to purchase.

What?

Subscription cartridges cannot be used outside of an active subscription.

AND

Subscription cartridges lock after the contract is terminated by either the subscriber or by HP.

What else?

What if you want to subscribe to Instant Ink?

Unfortunately, you cannot transfer an Instant Ink subscription contract from a previous owner.

If you print enough every month to make it worth doing, it might be worth subscribing.

Regardless,

True - You will need help from an HP agent to remove an old contract from the printer.

You need help to remove an old Instant Ink contract.

Once that is done, choose to enroll if and only after you understand the service.

The "free trial" is a set period during which you are not charged the monthly fee for your plan.

True, should you go over your plan page limit, you are charged per set for "X" sets of pages as used.

Ink is included at no extra charge - this is true regardless of the plan you select.

10 pages or 700 pages - Ink is included as part of the plan.

---------------------------------------------------------------

What is an Instant Ink Promotion / Trial ?

The offer is generally for a one month or longer trial to HP Instant Ink subscription service.

To get the trial, you must sign up, select a plan, and commit to the print-by-page subscription model.

An HP Instant Ink subscription is a contact for service - ink is included in that service.

The trial is a suspension of the monthly plan costs during the trial period.

The printer must be connected to the Internet (Web Services) during the Trial and for the duration of the contract.  Connection is used by service to monitor plan usage status and by the printer to request ink.

What is "Free Ink"?

There is no extra cost for ink.

Ink is provided as part of your subscription - use a drop or use a cup full, ink is included at no extra cost.

Important

After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.

  • All ink activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / subscription service is active.

and

  • Subscription / Instant Ink remains the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.

Who Benefits?

Instant Ink is an excellent service for those who print regularly, print high-density documents or artwork, or perhaps print lots of homework.  For example, those who benefit the most include Teachers, musicians, writers who like hard copy, large families, small business offices, community centers, churches, and others who love -- or need -- to print on paper.

It is important that you understand the Instant Ink cancellation / termination process and your responsibilities.

Thank you for the thorough answer. I understood the issue with InstantInk, but I don't understand how that is connected to the issue I have about signing in to the smart app on Windows 11. It works on my phone, I can scan (can't print cause of the instantink), but I cannot add the printer to my account which I'm guessing has something to do with the previous owner. My problem is with the Smart app on windows not so much the printer itself. Although I do need help with adding the printer to my account.

@JanekA

You are welcome.

Perhaps the source of the issue is elsewhere.

?

Yes -- Instant Ink Support can tell you whether the printer is tied to an old account.

Not-HP Experts do not have access to any private information (as it should be).

Perhaps the printer is failing its checks (for example, for usable ink / account) and it is blocking the HP Smart Windows app from opening as expected.

If you had HP Smart installed in your Windows system prior to acquiring this printer, the HP Smart application might benefit from resetting the application.  Instructions included later in this message.
