Hi @Kenn818,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 8035e is failing to register in the HP app with Error 400. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and complete the setup.

Understand what Error 400 means
Error 400 is a server or registration communication error.
It usually occurs when HP Smart cannot complete web services or account registration.

Check internet connection stability
Make sure your phone or computer has a strong, stable internet connection.
Avoid VPNs, mobile hotspots, or corporate networks during setup.

Verify date and time settings
On your phone or computer, ensure date, time, and time zone are set automatically.
Incorrect system time can cause registration and security handshake failures.

Reset printer network settings
On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
This clears any corrupted setup data that may block registration.

Put the printer back into setup mode
With the printer ON, press and hold the Cancel (X) and Wireless (📶) buttons together for 5 seconds.
The blue light should start blinking, indicating Wi-Fi setup mode.

Reinstall the HP Smart app
Uninstall HP Smart completely from your device.
Restart the device, then install the latest version of HP Smart and sign in again.

Sign in to the correct HP account
Make sure you are signed in with one HP account only.
Using multiple accounts or switching emails can cause registration to fail with Error 400.

Try setup from a different device
If setup fails on a phone, try a Windows or macOS computer (or vice versa).
This helps rule out app-specific or device-specific issues.

Temporarily disable firewall or security software (computer only)
Turn off third-party antivirus or firewall during setup.
These can block the registration request even though internet access works.

Complete setup before enabling Instant Ink
Finish printer setup and registration first.
Instant Ink enrollment should only be done after the printer is fully registered.

I hope this helps.
