Hi @Pquigley,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A false paper jam in the HP Envy 7640 printer can be frustrating. Here are some steps to help resolve the issue.

Inspect the Paper Path Thoroughly

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open all paper trays, doors, and access panels.
  • Check for any small pieces of paper, labels, or debris that could be causing a sensor issue.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect hard-to-see areas, especially around rollers and inside the duplexer.

Clean the Rollers

  • Look for and clean the paper feed rollers.
  • Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water and gently wipe the rollers to remove dust or debris.
  • Rotate the rollers manually if possible to clean them thoroughly.

Check the Rear Access Panel or Duplexer

  • Remove the rear access panel or duplexer (if applicable) and inspect it for obstructions or misaligned parts.
  • Reinstall the panel or duplexer securely.

Reset the Printer Again

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on. Ensure that the printer is on a stable, flat surface.

Run the Printer Self-Test

  • Use the printer’s control panel to run a self-test or paper feed test. This can help identify whether the issue persists.

Update or Reinstall Firmware

  • Ensure the printer has the latest firmware. Visit HP's official support site to download and install any available updates.

Inspect the Paper Sensor

  • Sometimes the paper sensor can be stuck or misaligned, causing a false paper jam error.
  • If you're comfortable, gently clean or adjust the paper sensor using a can of compressed air or a clean, dry cloth.

Check for Mechanical Issues

  • Inspect for any broken or out-of-place parts inside the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
