Hi @clairef1986,
Thank your response, To get your HP Laser 150nw connected to your Wi-Fi network and visible in the HP Smart app, you can follow these steps:
1. Connect via WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):
- If your router supports WPS, this can be the easiest way to connect:
- Press and hold the WPS button on your router.
- On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking (about 5 seconds).
- The printer should connect to your Wi-Fi network automatically.
2. Use the HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app on your device.
- If the printer isn’t showing up, try adding it:
- Tap the Plus (+) icon.
- Select Set up a new printer.
- Follow the on-screen prompts. If the app detects the printer, it may guide you through connecting it to your Wi-Fi.
3. Check Network Connection Using HP Printer Assistant:
- If you have a Windows computer with the printer installed:
- Open the HP Printer Assistant.
- Look for an option that says Print a Network Configuration Page. This will print out the printer’s current network settings, including the Wi-Fi network it’s connected to.
4. Use a USB Connection Temporarily:
- Connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable.
- Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant to check and change the network settings while connected via USB.
5. Reset Network Settings on Printer:
- If you’re still having trouble, you can reset the printer’s network settings:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously while turning the printer back on.
- Keep holding both buttons until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking.
- You can then attempt to reconnect using the WPS method or the HP Smart app.
6. Manual IP Address Configuration:
- If you can access your router’s settings, check the connected devices list to see if the printer is listed. This may help you determine its current IP address.
- You can also manually configure the printer’s IP address through the HP Smart app once it’s connected via USB.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @clairef1986
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP LaserJet Pro M150nw printer isn't connecting to your new laptop via USB or wireless, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the connection issue and address the streaky printing:
1. Check Printer Status
- Ensure the printer is powered on and is in a ready state. Check for any error messages or blinking lights that may indicate issues.
2. USB Connection
- If you're trying to connect via USB:
- Make sure you are using a good quality USB cable and that it is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop.
- Try a different USB port on your laptop.
- Ensure that the printer is set to accept USB connections.
3. Wireless Connection
- If connecting wirelessly:
- Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop.
- Check the printer's control panel to see if it shows a Wi-Fi connection status.
- If necessary, reset the printer's network settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
4. Install HP Smart
- Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your laptop.
- After installing, open the HP Smart app and select "Add a Printer." It should search for available printers.
5. Update Printer Drivers
- Go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers for the HP LaserJet Pro M150nw. Install them on your laptop, as outdated drivers can prevent proper communication with the printer.
6. Firewall/Antivirus Settings
- Sometimes, firewall or antivirus settings can block communication. Temporarily disable these to see if that resolves the issue.
7. Restart Devices
- Restart both your printer and laptop. This can often resolve connection issues.
8. Print Head Cleaning
- If you manage to connect and still face streaking issues, you can run the print head cleaning from the HP Smart app:
- Open HP Smart and select your printer.
- Go to Print > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printheads or Clean Cartridges (if available).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

There is no screen on the printer panel, so I can't see what network it's connected to. However, the printer is visible as a Direct Access Printer, which is not visible from my iPhone. So, how do I check that it's on my WiFi network?
