Hi @Talltall
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 8610 is not accepting ink and displaying an error message, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
Check Ink Cartridges:
- Make sure the cartridges are properly installed. Remove them and reinstall to ensure a secure fit.
- Check for any protective tape or seals that may not have been removed from new cartridges.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Carefully remove the cartridges and clean the electrical contacts (the copper-colored area) on both the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for firmware updates. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues with cartridges.
Check for Error Codes:
- Look for specific error codes on the printer display. These can provide more insight into the issue.
Try Different Cartridges:
- If you have access to other ink cartridges, try using them to see if the problem persists. Sometimes, cartridges can be defective.
Printer Maintenance:
- Run the printer’s built-in maintenance tools to check for issues. This can often be done through the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
