Says ' ink cartridge problem. The following ink cartridge must be replaced'. then it shows an oval shape filled in black. It was suggested to me that I needed to go onto hp support and install any updates as it might clear the message. By the way, I replaced both the tricolour and black cartridges with legit hp products first, that hasn't cleared it. So I went onto hp support, utterly baffling, didn't recognise my question no matter how I phrased it, punted in the end for 'finding software and drivers'. Not sure about that? No idea. I put in my printer type, It twirls and comes up with nothing. I left it twirling for entire night, nothing.  So hp doesn't have a category of help for users like me (great at using front end as long as it's working, lost if it isn't) and I don't even understand the headings of the help. I don't know what an operating system is either? It kept asking me that. It's currently linked wireless to my iPad. Once it is working I'd also like to link it to my laptop which runs off windows 10. If there are humans out there that can dumb this down for me, I'd be very pleased to hear from you.

Operating system is if your using windows or mac.

Uninstall the machine and re download it with the latest drivers and firmware.  Look up your machines in HP's site and download the latest Firmware and the Driver

Hi MacMac55, thanks for the advice.  Do you also happen to know how I reset the printer's password.  I thought of starting fresh and connecting it as a new device on my Windows 10 laptop, but it asks for the printer's password that I set (xx years ago???), I can't remember it.  I'm worried that if I uninstall it off the ipad, where currently it does not ask for a password as they are connected,  then reinstall with the updates that you mention, it's inevitably going to ask me to put in the password to use the printer..... I seem to have painted myself into a corner.  I don't seem to be able to find a way AT ALL of finding out my password, or resetting it, and the printer won't talk to my ipad until the code is cleared.  So I end up on a circular trip of bewilderment.  Any further advice welcome.  I may just give up and take the whole lot to a tech centre and see if they can help whilst charging me a bomb.....

not 100% personally for the password reset you can try a factory reset on the machine here is how to do it. Also found these steps for a password reset

HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One admin password reset
  1. Open a web browser and type the printer IP address in the address field exactly as it appears on the Configuration Page, and then press Enter.
  2. Click the Security tab, and under General Security, set the local administrator password.
  3. Keep the username default as admin.
  4. Type the New Password and Verify Password.

Factory Reset OfficeJet 4630
  1. Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  2. Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  3. Press and hold the printer's power button for 15 seconds.
  4. The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
