@NT-51-pk, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having a frustrating time with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw. Let's try to resolve this together. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:

For Printer Detection in HP Smart App:

  1. Restart Devices: Restart both your printer and computer to clear any potential error conditions.
  2. Check USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer.
  3. Update Software: Make sure the HP Smart app and your printer drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
  4. Add Printer Manually: If the printer is still not detected, try adding it manually using its IP address:
    • Open HP Smart.
    • Click Add Printer → Select Set up a new printer.
    • Choose Add Printer via IP Address and enter the printer’s IP address.

For Scanner Detection:

  1. HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix scanning issues.
  2. Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers: Perform a root-level uninstallation of the printer software and then reinstall the full feature printer software:
    • Unplug the USB cable from the printer.
    • Go to Control PanelPrograms and Features → Uninstall all HP printer entries.
    • Open the Run command (Windows Key + R), type printui.exe /s, and click OK.
    • In the Drivers tab, remove any HP printer drivers listed.
    • Restart your computer and reinstall the printer drivers from the HP Support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
