Hi @Tpdwell,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 7602 is stuck during the setup process. This issue can occur for various reasons, such as a software glitch or communication problem. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

Wait and Be Patient

  • Sometimes, the setup process can take longer than expected. If it’s only been a short time, wait a bit longer to see if the setup completes on its own.

Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on.
  • Restart Computer: Restart your computer as well to ensure there are no issues with the software or connections.

Check Network Connections

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your network. If you’re setting up a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Reinstall HP Smart Software

  • Uninstall HP Smart: On your computer or mobile device, uninstall the HP Smart software.
  • Reinstall HP Smart: Download the latest version of HP Smart from the HP Smart website or your device’s app store and reinstall it. Follow the setup instructions again.

Perform a Printer Reset

  • Factory Reset: If restarting doesn’t work, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This will return the printer to its original settings and might resolve any setup issues.
    • To perform a factory reset, refer to the printer’s user manual or HP support website for specific instructions for your model.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can fix bugs or issues related to setup and connectivity. Check the HP Support website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a free tool provided by HP to diagnose and fix common printer issues.
    • You can download it from the HP Support website by searching for “HP Print and Scan Doctor.”

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

if none of your "solutions" work what are we supposed to do? I have wasted hours trying to get this STUPID printer working.

What worked for me:

- Connect to the printer via USB

- Open the HP Smart app

- It should find the printer and have a "finish setup" button. This finish setup button doesn't work.

- Instead, connect to the printers web administration site. Factory reset and other actions don't work. However, some do

- Connect the printer to a wifi network that works using the wifi setup wizard.

- Check for software updates. This should trigger an update of the printer software

- The printer will still say "HP software is setting up your printer" but you should be able to actually finish setup over USB.
