Hi @Violet-505,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

Meanwhile, you can try these steps:

1. Power Reset the Printer

  • Leave the printer powered on.

  • Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.

  • Wait 60 seconds.

  • Plug it back in directly to a wall socket (not an extension board).

  • Power it on → see if the setup screen clears.

2. Restore Printer Network Settings

  • Since they can’t access the full menu:

    • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel (X) button together for 5 seconds.

    • This resets network settings and brings the printer back into Wi-Fi setup mode.

3. Uninstall & Reinstall HP Smart

  • On the Mac:

    • Delete HP Smart from Applications.

    • Reboot Mac.

    • Download fresh copy from Mac App Store.

  • Open HP Smart → log in → select Set up a new printer.

  • Connect using Wi-Fi setup again.

4. Try USB Setup (Bypass Wi-Fi Setup)

  • Connect the printer directly to the Mac with a USB cable.

  • Open HP Smart → it should detect via USB and complete the setup.

  • Once finished, move printer to Wi-Fi mode.

5. Firmware Recovery (if still stuck)

  • Go to HP Software and Drivers page → enter the printer model.

  • Download the Firmware Update Utility for Mac.

  • Run it with the printer connected via USB → it may refresh the setup screen.

I hope this helps.
