@mitch3591, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HpPortlox64.sys driver is part of HP's secure port monitor system used for printing and scanning operations. If it won’t load and the dialog box stays frozen on the screen, this often points to a driver corruption, compatibility issue with Windows 11, or a stuck background service.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to fix it:
Boot into Safe Mode
- Hold Shift and click Restart from the Start Menu → Power icon.
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Press 4 to boot into Safe Mode.
Uninstall All HP Drivers & Software
- Open Device Manager → Expand Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click and uninstall all HP-related drivers. Check "Delete the driver software for this device" if available.
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, uninstall all HP-related software.
- Delete the HpPortlox64.sys file manually (if it persists):
- Navigate to: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\HpPortlox64.sys
- Rename it to HpPortlox64.old or delete it (if possible).
Clean Residual Files
- Press Win + R, type printui /s /t2, and remove any HP print drivers listed.
- Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor (in Safe Mode or after restarting into normal mode).
- Optional: Use a tool like CCleaner to clean temporary files and registry entries.
Reboot and Reinstall
- Reboot normally.
- Download and install the latest full driver/software for HP DeskJet 2752e from: https://support.hp.com
- Follow the installation prompts and reconnect the printer only when prompted.
Additional Fixes if Box Still Stays on Screen
If the error box still remains stuck:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, and end any HP-related processes.
- Go to Startup tab and disable any HP startup entries.
- Check Event Viewer (Windows Logs > System) for HpPortlox64 load errors and share the details if you'd like a deeper diagnosis.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
