This weird error might be the result of the full driver printer software having been corrupted, possibly due to a Windows Update.

While HP Smart is mostly independent of the full driver, both app and full driver share some dependencies, including how Printing Preferences and paper sizes / paper types are defined, accessed, and made available.

-- What if? --

If you don't want to reinstall anything, dislike anything difficult, and perhaps want an easy might-work solution:

1. Restart computer
2. Reset the printer

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

1. If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.

2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

3. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

4. Wait 60 seconds.

5. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

   Note:

   HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

6. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Printer - Full Solution / Full Driver Software

The full driver provides access to the full range of printer features and supports printing from other software (for example, Word).

Reinstalling?

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features. 

-- Note --

Should you find uninstalling the printer software from Programs and Features too cumbersome, you may uninstall the full driver from Settings → Apps → Installed Apps → Search for the full driver, for example, a driver including "DeskJet 2710" or "DeskJet 2700" in the name.

Next,

• If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and sign in.
• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

The Offline Use Only, Print and Scan Driver, or similarly named installation web packs can be used in either a network‑connected or USB‑connected environment.

The name of the installation file depends on the printer model and the type of packaging.

This method includes the printer software in the installation package; hence the much larger file size.

You need not answer questions about which driver or type of printer software to select and install.

Using USB?

Be sure to unplug the USB cable between the printer and the computer before loading the software. 

Re-connect the USB cable when instructed to do so, generally near the end of the successful installation of the printer software.

Restart the computer after the software is installed.

-- What about HP Smart? --

Be careful of uninstalling HP Smart. 

The application has been replaced (by HP, the company) with an application named HP.

HP Smart is not -- or will soon not be -- available in the Microsoft Store

You may continue to use HP Smart as long as it works for you.

-- Important –

Any HP application you install should be sourced from HP.

What?  Fakes have been discovered on at least one App Store –

Check who is providing the application → Windows Store listing for HP apps → “HP Inc.”

Ask if you would information about installing and using HP (the application).
