I am concerned about my printer with the next Mac update. Will my printer work with it?

Hi, I keep getting notices on my Mac that certain applications will not work after the next update.  Does this affect the HP Printer that I have?

Sure, your printer could be impacted.

If the notices do not contain specifics -- for example, the source of the notice, the impacted printer models and / or impacted versions of MacOS, then I am guessing you must wait to find out whether you (your printer) are impacted by the "updates".

You can, of course, assume the worst, and start considering a replacement printer based on your needs and wants.

It's not your fault -- the part of the editor that populates user added information (the device model and OS) has been "fritzy" (unreliable) for months.  😐  

That's an older model -- I see the release date as about November 2015.

The printer is at least "vintage" by now and might be headed for retirement (typical for consumer printers at ten years or older).  -- What? -- When a product is "Retired", all HP drivers (if any are left) and all HP documentation will be removed.

HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer series

Yes, I am guessing that whatever you are seeing means that should the printer still work after any updates, it will be reduced to using (depending on) any basic print drivers included in your Mac OS.

Might be time to consider an upgrade.

I didn’t go through the last post but can you recommend something that has the same capabilities as the printer I have but that will be compatible moving forward??

I know a bit about the features offered in the OfficeJet Pro printers --

And

I know absolutely nothing about using those printers in a Mac OS environment.

For example,

At this writing, the OfficeJet Pro 9135e is still the "top of line" --

I suspect, just because the model has been around for a while, that the "next best thing" is just around the corner.  True?  No idea -- I keep waiting and so far... still waiting.  Smiling.

• The 9135e does pretty much anything any OfficeJet Pro printer can do.
• The new 9135e models (I have an older 2024 model) have added AI guided Print - seems like a fun upgrade. 
• The 9135e incorporates automatic 2-sided scan (cherished in my world).
• The printer is HP+ capable  -- I have enabled the optional HP+ service on my 9135e to have access to the added features.   True, these are used mostly for training and how-to purposes, but the features are nice to have.
• The printer supports a variety of Digital Send Features and Digital Fax, too.
• The printer has two paper trays -- another "must have" in my opinion.
• The printer offers Ethernet -- yet another advantage.  We have a robust and busy network.  Every advantage helps.
• The printer offers higher security -- strict enough that if you want to do so, you can tie it in knots and let only those you allow to do only those tasks you choose.  This much higher level of security is available but is not enabled by default.  Tighter security is something home users might not need (or want to manage) but the extra security could be crucial in a small / medium office setting.

Top of Line includes more and costs more.

You need to decide first how much you are willing to spend.

Look closely at the current models offered at the HP Store and compare features.

For example,

The OfficeJet Pro 8130e looks the same on the surface but lacks that coveted automatic 2-sided scan.

If what you want to spend does not include what you want to have, decide whether to spend more or do with less.

What about Mac OS?

Again, No idea.

The printer is packed with features -- I do not know whether the Mac OS printer software can make use of all that the printer offers or how the print and scan environment behaves.
