I was requiring assistance with my printer installation. I contacted HP support and after being in a chat room with a tech a person came on the line and assisted me with the installation by gaining access to my computer. He then told me about the McAfee protection plan and advised me to purchase the lifetime package. I did but now am wondering if I purchased it through a legitimate source as it was charged to Royal Care by PayPal.
Can you assist me with this question?

Welcome to the HP Community --
Dragon Opinion
Sounds like a trick or scam to me.
Websites claim all sorts of things, including swearing in their mother's arms that "they are HP".
Later, when you check back in the web page history, some of these fraudsters might even manage to make your browser history look like you were at an HP website. Tricky, clever, devious, and dangerous.
"HP Care Pack" extended warranties is an extended warranty coverage available from HP for specific systems and under specific conditions.
HP Care Pack extended warranty packages can, within the strict context of the package purchased, provide benefits to the purchaser.
HP Care Pack extended warranty purchases have nothing to do with having been convinced to purchase a lifetime McAfee security contract.
McAfee has naught to do with connecting your printer to your network or installing printer apps or software.
In so much that I am aware, HP Care Pack contracts are ONLY available on eligible systems, during a specific time frame after purchase, and are only sold by HP direct to the consumer.
If you feel you were taken advantage, contact your bank and your local authorities.
Having let the rogue into your computer is a whole different can of worms, of course.
Change all your passwords, consider any data on the computer not locked behind encryption to be vulnerable.

Beware of Fake Sites
The "Real Deal"
123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site
The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.
There are many “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.
If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your printer or computer OR if the “help” wants to sell you software, threatens you, or wants to log into your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!

Don’t buy the care pac. HP is not returning your money if you don’t use it. I applied for my refund 6 months ago. I never got my refund. There are no phone numbers to call nobody I’ve talked to can help. HP is stealing our money.
