@ArchieOtto63, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble uninstalling the HP LaserJet 1018 printer driver on Windows 11 because the HP Assistant crashes. Let's try a few alternative steps to remove the driver manually and cleanly.

Disconnect the Printer

  • Unplug the USB cable from your printer and computer.

Remove the Printer from Windows Settings

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP LaserJet 1018, then click Remove device.

Uninstall HP Software via Control Panel

  • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl, and press Enter.
  • Look for any HP-related software (e.g., HP LaserJet driver or HP Smart).
  • Select it and click Uninstall.

Delete Leftover Driver Files

  • Press Windows + R, type printui /s /t2, and press Enter.
  • In the Print Server Properties window, find HP LaserJet 1018, select it, and click Remove.
  • Choose Remove driver and driver package.

Restart Your Computer

Reinstall the Driver (Optional)

  • Try installing the Windows 10 driver in compatibility mode:
    • Download from HP: HP LaserJet 1018 Drivers
    • Right-click the installer > Properties > Compatibility tab > check Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 10 > Apply > OK > Run as Administrator.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
