Hi @drbharati

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for the detailed setup info—Windows 11 24H2 is still stabilizing driver support, and the HP LaserJet 1020 Plus is known to be finicky with newer builds.

Here's a structured workaround that’s helped many users get it working reliably:

Fix: HP LaserJet 1020 Plus Installation on Windows 11 24H2

1. Remove Any Existing Printer Entries

  • Press Win + R, type control printers, and hit Enter
  • Right-click any “HP LaserJet 1020 Plus” or “Unspecified” device → Remove device
  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and uninstall any HP LaserJet software

2. Use HP Universal Print Driver (UPD)

HP doesn’t offer a dedicated Windows 11 driver for this model, but the UPD PCL5 works well:

3. Reconnect the Printer via USB 2.0 Port

  • Disconnect the printer
  • Restart your PC
  • Plug the printer directly into a USB 2.0 port (avoid USB hubs or docking stations)
  • Windows should detect it and assign the UPD driver

4. Manually Assign the Driver (if needed)

If it still shows up as “Unspecified”:

  • Go to Device Manager
  • Right-click the printer → Update driver
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers
  • Select Let me pick from a list
  • Choose HP Universal Print Driver (PCL5) from the list

5. Test Print

  • Open Devices and Printers
  • Right-click the printer → Printer Properties
  • Click Print Test Page

You're clearly doing everything right—just need to outmaneuver the OS quirks.
