I am setting up a new printer and while to download the soft ware it’s asking for a password.

I'm not sure which password. It could be a PIN. If you're installing using HP Smart it requires an account when you first use it. If you're connecting using Wi-fi direct there's a Wi-fi direct password. If you're connecting to the router  there's either a pin or a password for the Wi-Fi

General help for new modem
1 - Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer
2 - Wi-Fi connection is lost after router or network settings change
3 - HP Smart help with printer connection.

Please provide the exact model name of the printer for better assistance as there may be videos to show how to connect.

Also, let me know if you have a flex system (WiFi boosters or repeaters) as the setup is more complicated.

The other pin might be the EWS or system code. Most current consumer models now ship with a password lock on them and that default password is on a sticker on either the MP tray (LaserjetPro Models) or inside the ink access door (ink based models)

This is unreal.  So if the password sticker is discarded the owner will ask here for help with the password.  We cannot give out password advice in this forum.  If they call HP they get re-directed here for help.

One would have to physically rip the sticker off and it is not in an exposed area so the chance of accidental removal is pretty slim. Sample below

As far as I am aware, if the customer removes the sticker and performs a factory reset and does not have the number they are out of luck. I guess HP might have an formula to recover the code based on serial number but they are not sharing that with service personnel if they do.
