@Trini852, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're trying to set up your HP LaserJet M111w on a work laptop running Windows 11, and you're being prompted to enable Location Services, which you can't do due to admin restrictions. No worries, there are alternative ways to complete the setup without needing to enable location services.

Why Location Services Are Requested

HP Smart sometimes requests location access to help with Wi-Fi setup and regional settings, but it's not mandatory for connecting your printer.

Alternative Setup Options

Option 1: Use HP Smart on a Mobile Device

If you have a smartphone or tablet, you can use the HP Smart app to set up the printer and connect it to your Wi-Fi network. Once it's connected to Wi-Fi, your work laptop should detect it automatically.

Download the HP Smart app:

HP Smart

Open the app and follow the prompts to add your HP LaserJet M111w.

Once the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, install the printer on your laptop via:

  • Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device

Option 2: Manual Wireless Setup via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If you can temporarily connect your printer via USB, you can manually configure the wireless settings:

  1. Connect the printer to your laptop via USB.
  2. Download and install the HP Easy Start tool:
HP Easy Start Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
  3. During setup, choose Wireless Setup and follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi.
  4. Once connected, you can remove the USB cable and print wirelessly.

Option 3: Use Windows Built-in Driver

If you already know your printer is on the same Wi-Fi network:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device.
  2. Windows should detect the HP LaserJet M111w and install a basic driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried setting up through the mobile app and it does not detect the printer but asks me to go to my wifi and search for HP Setup when I go to my wifi my printer is listed but has a password. I previously had this printer set up to my laptop (not the mobile app) but my internet provider upgraded my router and that's when I started having problems to reconnect. Could that be why its showing on my wifi with a password? I have tried all the passwords I know but does not work how can you reset the password?

@Trini852, Thanks for the update, and yes the issue you're experiencing is likely due to your new router. When the internet provider upgraded your router, the printer was still trying to connect using the old network settings, and that's why you're seeing the HP Setup network with a password.

Let me walk you through how to reset the printer and connect it to your new Wi-Fi:

Reset the Printer’s Wi-Fi Settings

To remove the old network settings and enter Wi-Fi setup mode again:

  • Turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button (📶) on the printer for 10 seconds or until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking.
    – This puts the printer into Wi-Fi setup mode and clears the saved Wi-Fi settings (including any passwords).

On the HP LaserJet M111w, there is only one Wireless button - no display. So holding it triggers the reset.

Connect Using HP Smart (Mobile App)

Make sure your phone is connected to your home Wi-Fi (not the HP Setup network).

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Tap “Add Printer”.
  • It should now detect your printer as ready for setup.
  • Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi (you’ll be asked to enter your new Wi-Fi password).

Important Notes:

If you still see “HP-Setup-xx-LaserJet” in your Wi-Fi list, ignore it for now unless the HP Smart app asks you to connect to it during setup.

If setup fails again, try restarting both your phone and printer, then repeat the steps.

I hope this helps!
