HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I cannot find anything about double-sided printing in the printer panel. On my I go to System Preferences, select Printers & Scanners, Options & Supplies (nothing in options) then click on 'show printer web page' and cannot see there anything about printer options.

It sounds like your HP Officejet Pro 8600 isn't showing the double-sided (duplex) printing option. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and enable it on macOS 10.15 Catalina:

Check if Duplex Printing is Enabled

  1. Click on the Apple menu and go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your HP Officejet Pro 8600 from the list.
  3. Click Options & Supplies and then go to the Options tab.
  4. Look for Duplex Printing Unit and ensure it is checked.
    • If this option isn’t available, your printer driver may not be fully installed.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Remove the printer:
    • In Printers & Scanners, select your printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
  2. Re-add the printer:
    • Click the plus (+) button, select your printer, and make sure to select “HP Officejet Pro 8600” and NOT AirPrint (if available).
  3. If the issue persists, download and install the latest HP Easy Start tool from HP’s website to get the correct driver.

Enable Duplex Printing in Print Settings

  1. Open a document and go to File > Print.
  2. Click Show Details if needed.
  3. Look for Two-Sided Printing or Duplex.
  4. If it’s missing, click on Printer Features or Layout from the dropdown menu and check for duplex options there.

Use HP Embedded Web Server

Since you mentioned checking the printer’s web page, try this:

  1. Open a web browser and enter your printer’s IP address (found in Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings on the printer).
  2. Look for Settings > Print Settings and check for duplex printing options.
