Just thought of sopmething else to try a few minutes ago.

I tried to print a Word 2013 document to my Brother DCP 7065DN printer but chose "Print to file". Got prompted for file name and sure enough it created a ".prn" file. If I open that file with Notepad, there's some human readable stuff in there that make it obvious that it's destined for the Brother printer.

So, I tried the same thing with the same Word 2013 document but this time to the HP 8710 and "Print to file". Again I get prompted for a file name but this time, no file is created.

Something is awry with the 8710 driver interface to Word 2013.

I can send you the .prn file generated for the Brother if that would be of any assistance.

I just had a long online session with a support rep.

He blundered through a whole bunch of stuff and, if anything, made it worse.

I can't even print a "Test Page" now (he couldn't either by the time he was done).

He finally threw up his hands (figuratively speaking) and said I'd have to contact the "Paid" support as he couldn't make it work.

He even claimed it was a "Dell" issue because the Security Permissions on the "Temp" folder were inadequate.

When I reminded him that security issues on the Temp folder were managed by Windows (not the hardware manufacturer) he said, Yes but Windows was installed by Dell when I bought the computer. It wasn't - I installed Windows 10 myself overtop of Windows 7.

He's obviously not competent to solve the problem but wants me to now pay for what should have worked "Out Of The Box"!

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details)

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
