browser error

The browser states connection not secure. ERR_SSL_Version_or_Cipher_Mismatch

I lost the ability to print from my android devices and wish to set up WiFi direct. Currently the printer is connected to my Spectrum router using a Cat 8 cable. There were no issues with the Android devices, S22, Tablet 7 FE, Pixel 6.

Also, I want to add a password to the printer.

If anyone knows what the last firmware version for this printer, that would be helpful.

Hi @TRM5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue with accessing the Embedded Web Server (EWS) admin settings due to a browser error and configuring Wi-Fi Direct can be resolved with a few steps. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and set up your HP OfficeJet Pro 9210:

Step 1: Resolve Browser Error (ERR_SSL_Version_or_Cipher_Mismatch)

The SSL error typically occurs due to compatibility issues between the browser and the printer’s web server. Here's how to bypass or resolve this issue:

Update Your Browser:

  • Make sure you are using the latest version of your browser.

Try a Different Browser:

  • Sometimes, certain browsers handle SSL certificates differently. Try using a different browser like Firefox, Edge, or Safari.

Advanced Browser Settings:

  • In Chrome, type chrome://flags/ in the address bar and press Enter.
  • Search for TLS and ensure that all settings related to TLS/SSL are enabled.
  • You may also try to disable TLS 1.3 temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.

Proceed with Unsafe Connection:

  • If you trust the connection (since it's your printer), you can proceed to the site by clicking "Advanced" and then "Proceed to [IP address] (unsafe)".

Step 2: Access the EWS Admin Settings

  1. Find the Printer’s IP Address:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Network Settings or Wireless Settings to find the IP address.
  2. Access the EWS:
    • Open a web browser and type the printer’s IP address in the address bar (e.g., http://192.168.1.100).
    • If you encounter SSL errors, follow the steps above to bypass them.

Step 3: Set Up Wi-Fi Direct

Enable Wi-Fi Direct on the Printer:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Network Settings or Wireless Settings.
  • Find and enable Wi-Fi Direct.
  • Note the Wi-Fi Direct Name and Password that appear on the screen.

Connect Android Devices to Wi-Fi Direct:

  • On your Android device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  • Find and select the Wi-Fi Direct network corresponding to your printer.
  • Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password to connect.

Step 4: Add a Password to the Printer (EWS)

  1. Access the EWS Security Settings:
    • In the EWS, navigate to the Security or Administrator Settings section.
    • Set a password for the EWS to prevent unauthorized access.
    • Save the settings.

Step 5: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check the Current Firmware Version:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Printer Updates > Check for Updates.
  2. Update Firmware:
    • If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.
    • Alternatively, visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model to manually download and install the latest firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

In my experience, the built in firmware check does not always show the current firmware. It is worth going to support.hp.com and finding what firmware is posted there.
