Hi @LyndaHighland,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you’re having trouble installing your HP DeskJet 2855e printer on both your Windows 11 laptop and your Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) desktop. I’ll help you get set up correctly.

Important note on compatibility

The HP DeskJet 2855e is part of the HP+ printer series, which is fully supported only on:

  • Windows 10 or later (Windows 11 recommended)
  • macOS 10.14 or later

Unfortunately, Windows 7 is not supported for HP+ models. The 2855e requires the HP Smart app, which cannot run on Windows 7. You can still print from your Windows 11 laptop once setup is complete.

To install on your Windows 11 laptop

  1. Uninstall any previous or partial HP installs:
    • Open Settings → Apps → Installed Apps.
    • Remove any existing HP app or HP DeskJet software.
    • Restart your laptop.

  2. Reinstall using HP App:

💡 If setup fails, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together on the printer for 5 seconds to reset its network, then retry.

About your Windows 7 desktop

Because Windows 7 cannot run HP Smart, you won’t be able to use the full HP+ features or drivers.
You have two options:

  1. Use your Windows 11 laptop as the main print host and share the printer on your local network (so the desktop can print through it).

  2. Install a basic driver (if available) by connecting the printer via USB.
    • Plug the printer into your Windows 7 PC with a USB cable.
    • Windows may automatically install a generic USB print driver, allowing basic printing.
    • Full scanning and HP Smart functions will not be available on Windows 7.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
