Hi @Santos2201,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the screenshots. They make the situation very clear. Here’s what’s happening:

Why Your HP LaserJet P1006 Won’t Work on macOS 26 (M4 Chip)

  • The HP LaserJet P1006 is an older printer model.
  • The drivers shown in your screenshot only support OS X Mountain Lion / Lion and up to macOS 10.14.
  • macOS 26 (Sonoma successor) on Apple Silicon (M4) does not support these legacy drivers.
  • HP has not released native drivers for this printer for macOS 12 and newer.

So, the printer appears in your Mac’s printer list but cannot process jobs because the driver is incompatible.

Your Options

1. Use Apple’s Built-in AirPrint (If Supported)

Unfortunately, the P1006 does not support AirPrint natively. So this option won’t work.

2. Install an Open-Source Driver (CUPS + Gutenprint or HP Linux Imaging and Printing)

  • Download Gutenprint or HPLIP for macOS
    • Gutenprint for macOS
  • These packages provide generic PCL drivers that often work with older HP LaserJets.
  • After installing, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, remove the old printer, and re-add it using the Generic PCL driver.

3. Use HP App (Not Recommended for P1006)

The HP app does not support this legacy model on macOS 26.

4. Alternative: Virtualize or Use a Print Server

  • If you have an older Mac or Windows PC, you can share the printer over the network.
  • Or use a lightweight Linux VM with HPLIP and share via IPP.

HP Official Statement

HP lists the P1006 as unsupported on macOS 12 and newer👉 HP printer compatibility with macOS and OS X | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
