HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer

For some reason, after moving the printer and having to unplug and restart, nothing worked.  Had to reinstall ( seemed difficult ) Finally works but I have no software icons as I used to for scanning, etc  How do I at least get the scanning shortcut back?

Hi @Teedz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble after moving your printer! It can be frustrating to lose functionality, but we can get your scanning shortcuts back in place. Let’s address this step-by-step.

  • Did you reinstall the printer software using the HP Smart app or directly via Windows drivers?
  • Do you see the printer listed in Devices and Printers or HP Smart app?
  • Are you using Windows 11, or a different operating system?

Let's try these steps.

1. Install or Reinstall the HP Smart App

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store (for Windows) or the App Store (Mac/iOS).
  • Open the app and add your printer.
  • Once connected, the app will provide shortcuts for scanning, printing, and maintenance tasks.

2. Create a Scanning Shortcut on the Desktop

  • Open the HP Smart app and click Scan.
  • Right-click the app icon in the taskbar and choose Pin to Taskbar or Pin to Start.
  • If you want a desktop shortcut:
    1. Right-click the desktop, select New > Shortcut.
    2. Enter the app path:
      • For HP Smart: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\HPSmart_xxxx
    3. Name it "HP Smart - Scan" and save.

3. Reinstall the Full Software Suite

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for HP OfficeJet 8015e drivers.
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers package.
  • Follow the setup wizard to ensure all utilities, including the scanning tool, are installed.

4. Add Windows Scan Shortcut

  • If you don’t want to use HP Smart, you can use Windows Scan:
    1. Open the Microsoft Store, search for Windows Scan, and install it.
    2. Add your printer and use the app to scan.

5. Verify Printer Software Installation

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Ensure the HP OfficeJet 8015e software is listed.
  • If not, reinstall the drivers and software suite.

Note: Reinstalling the HP Smart app is the easiest way to get your scanning functionality and shortcuts back.

  • Create taskbar or desktop shortcuts for quick access to scanning.
  • Use the Windows Scan app if you prefer not to install HP software.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
