Hi @Pete7777,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Ah, the classic "new laptop meets old printer" saga, like a buddy cop movie where they don’t quite speak the same language yet! Your MacBook Air is just trying to find the right driver, so it knows how to talk to your Samsung ML-2160 printer. No worries, I’ll help you get them on the same page (literally). Let’s get that printer up and running so you can get back to printing without the tech headaches!

Your Samsung ML-2160 printer may not have built-in drivers for macOS, so you'll need to install the correct software manually. Here’s how you can fix it:

Download Samsung Printer Driver for macOS

Since Samsung printers are now managed by HP, follow these steps:

  • Go to the HP Support website:
  • Search for "Samsung ML-2160".
  • Download the latest macOS driver.

Manually Select a Compatible Driver

If macOS asks for a driver but doesn’t list your printer, try these:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click Add Printer (+).
  • If ML-2160 appears, select it.
  • If it asks for a driver, choose:
    • Generic PostScript Printer
    • Generic PCL Printer

Use AirPrint (If Available)

  • Try selecting AirPrint as the driver.
  • If your printer supports it, this will allow printing without extra drivers.

Reset Printing System (If Printer Still Doesn't Work)

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  • Restart your Mac and add the printer again.

By now, your printer should be happily connected to your Mac, ready to churn out crisp prints like a pro. But if it’s still giving you the silent treatment, let me know, we’ll get to the bottom of it! Because the only thing standing between you and a perfectly printed page should be hitting "Print," not a tech puzzle! 😊
